Positive things about Deployment

The hubs left today. We said our goodbye's at home and I just dropped him off at the airport. M hate's goodbye's and thought it would be quick and painless. As I dropped him off though we were both teary eyed but managed to hold it together.I took the whole day off work and decided to pamper myself with a pedicure right after dropping him off. I did some grocery shopping, ran to the Hobby Lobby and now am home and am starting to get the symptoms of a UTI. Last time the hubby left I had a pinched nerve in my back so go figure, why wouldn't something by wrong with me this time. Hopefully my Dr is faxing a prescription to my pharmacy as we speak so I don't have to go in.
Since my last few posts recently have been kinda negative and depressing, I thought I would change it up a bit and focus on the positives of a deployment. Here they are

1. An extra car means I'm spending less on gas. Since I fill up my car at least every other day due to the traveling for work, I now plan on driving my car until it hit's empty and then on driving M's car until it reaches empty. Then I will fill them both up and start the process over

2. Healthy eating. With M gone it will be easier to eat less. Take this past weekend for example, with no food in the house we were forced to eat out. Friday-Pizza with friends. Saturday-Out to dinner and dessert from the Cheesecake Factory. Sunday-Chinese and leftover cheesecake Monday-Pizza Today-Ihop for breakfast and I'm off to dinner in a bit with my girlie's. So on my grocery shopping trip today I stocked up on fruits, veggie's, yogart, cereal and lean cuisine's. I bought no soda or junk food of any kind. Starting tomorrow it is time for me to get bikini ready

3. Messes-All messes left in the house will be mine. No picking up dirty socks and boxers laying all over the place. Even today as I picked up the house a bit I found target bags in each and every room where M has started some sort of garbage bag. It's just so hard for him to walk to our kitchen to our main garbage and throw his trash away

4. I can lay in bed every night and fall asleep to girlie movies such as Sex and the City and Mamma Mia.

5. My two favorite shows start in about 2 weeks. Tori and Dean and Army Wives. I can sit and watch them in peace without Marshall snorting in laughter and commenting on how fake and unrealistic Army Wives is

6. Girl's nights-I love hanging out with my friend's and now won't have to feel guilty about leaving M behind

7. Once warm weather hits I wil by laying out by the pool with a book in hand and won't have someone bugging me every 10 minutes and asking if I'm ready to go inside yet.

8. No more cooking-Since it's only me my diet will consist of things that are easy to make. Easy as in pop in the microwave and press a button. I am looking forward to not having to cook for anyone these next few months

9. Less laundry and cleaning for me to do. This I will def enjoy. Who wouldn't

10. I can't think of a 10th reason. We all know that within a week these positive things won't be so positive. I will be wishing I had someone home to cook for, clean for and just to lay in bed with watching that girlie movie. Oh well, a girl's gotta stay positive right

Thank you all for your support the last few days!!

  1. Hey Katie!
I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers today and each and every day during M's deployment.
Hubs travels Monday thru Friday, and is home on weekends, so I think I can correlate to your 'perks' a little as well. Our secret single behaviour!
Take spesh care of yourself and way to be super positive!

    xoxo

  3. Aw. I'm sorry it's "that time" again. I know the feeling all too well. I hope it goes quickly for you, and I am happy to read positives of a deployment! I couldn't agree more with them! As much as you will miss him, those positive things sure do help! :)

  4. Oh I'm sorry about him leaving today but girlie you impress me with how strong you are. Seriously, what an awesome idea to list the positive side to deployments. I wish we lived closer and we could watch army wives together every week, my husband is the same as he sits and laughs all the way through it!

  5. I really admire your strength!

Here's a #10 for you...you can sleep in the middle of the bed or diagnal (can't figure out how to spell that word) or like a starfish. And he can't complain! I know I enjoy this when my husband works.

  7. I have been thinking about you today! Good for you for making a list of positives! I totally agree with all of those...they sound wonderful. I kind of chuckled when you said you found random Target bags that M started as garbage bags...that is too funny! Typical guy move right there!

Hope you had fun with your girls :)

  8. I'm really amazed every time I see someone put such a positive spin on a deployment. They're not easy, and to be able to think about the positives rather than get stuck on the negatives takes a LOT of strength. Props to you for taking the day off and getting a pedicure, and if you're that itchy for someone to cook for, feel free to come cook for me! :D

  9. I'm sorry you're having to do this again. But you're right, it's all about attitude, and yours sounds great! Keep counting your blessings, and remember, we're all here for you!

  11. Awww! Poor girl!

So I'm not totally cocky or anything but I when I first glanced at the page, all I saw was "my favorite... Tori" and I was like "What about me?!" and got all excited and then I realized you meant Spelling. Whatever, Tori and Chad totally have a more entertaining life! ;)

  12. I did that with our cars during our deployment. But you may want to fill and switch at half a tank. It's more efficient, cheaper and safer than riding to empty. I never never never let my tank go below half!

Let us know when you need more positives!

  14. My guy says Army Wives isn't realistic either. Okay so that parts about the hubbys aren't but the friendships I think are. I just wish it was okay at this post to hang out with wives whose hubbys are higher rank like in the show... meh. I'll be here everyday if you want to chat though.

  16. this is kinda funny to me because I told Rob I wish they would postpone army wives one week so he would not have to watch it with me and tell me all they do wrong

  17. I like Tori and Dean too. I also get made fun of for watching Army Wives. I can't help it though it is one of my favorites!

I know this time sucks, but as you said there are a few things to be positive about. :) Take each day as it comes!

  21. i do the whole sleeping diagonal thing when my hubby is gone but what I really want to know is what your husband does my husband has been deployed 3 times and each have been 12 months or more and he will get deployed when we get to germany for another 12 months since I just started following and my husband doesnt believe about a soldier getting deployed for only 3 months we were interested in what he does

  22. Hang in there! You are not alone :) I know it's so so hard.

  23. I'm glad you were able to point out the positive things today! And hey, you're one day closer to him coming home! I agree with you on Army Wives. While it doesn't hit as close to home for me, I live not too far from Charleston and love the show!

  24. Glad to see a positive list! Keep your head up & time will go by faster than you think (: The few things I loved about my Hubs being deployed...bed to myself & no criticizing my TV shows!!

  29. It's wonderful to see that you're staying positive about deployment! The house being cleaner is a definite positive on my deployment, as well.

Fortunately, your hubby will only be gone for three months instead of a year! He'll be home before you know it! Stay positive!

  33. Great positive attitude sweet girl! Hang in there, chin up, enjoy eating healthy and that lovely man of yours will be home soon!

xx I'll be thinking about you!

  34. Awww! At least you have an awesome attitude! And by the way, that it totally how we do goodbye. Keep it low key and stress free as possible. It just is easier that way to rip the bandaid off and say goodbye.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Aw I am so sorry he is gone, but you have an amazing attitude about it!

We are a big "fan" {um, if you can be} of the bandaid ripping off type goodbyes, too. Short and sweet. No need to draw it out!

  36. Family sep could be your #10? My husband and I are the only ones we know who don't mind being seperated every know and then. We of course miss each other like crazy, but we love that we are able to miss each other. And thinking about the renioun is the best part.
I do like having less laundry, less gas to pay for, less food to buy. ha

    ReplyDelete
  37. Awesome list! I'm glad you've found something else to focus on instead of dwelling on what you can't change. Have fun tonight!

  38. Hey I'm a new follower of yours! I'm very glad I came across your blog because I'm about to go through our 2nd deployment but this time we have a kid and it's going to be longer than the last one. So I needed to hear someone think positively about it. Gives me even more reasons to stay positive!

  39. I can think of reason #10. Your Blogger BFF gets to come for a hubby-free (in a good way of course!) weekend and we'll have some beach time. What's not to love? :) Keep your head up girl. You will make it through this. I'm always here!

  40. Thanks for reminding me of the positives of deployment - even though it doesn't compensate sometimes I loose sight of how nice it is to not watch ESPN every hour of the day, or to throw on the notebook whenever I want:)
