Introducing Bubble: Our Elf on the Shelf

Last year my mom bought the kids the Elf on the shelf. It has sat in Gianna's closet this past year, waiting to be brought out. I wasn't sure if Gianna was still too young to understand the concept of the Elf on the Shelf but decided to start this tradition anyway. A few weeks ago I brought out our Elf on the Shelf. I read the kiddos the book and sat down to pick a name for our little elf. That conversation went something like this

Me: Gianna, what should we name our elf?
Gianna: Nana
Me: That's your name, what else could we name him
Gianna: Eshe
Me: That's brother's name. What else?
Gianna: Hmm, Pinkie Pie!
Ahh, my little pony loving girl

Now I debated about whether or not to change Pinkie Pie's name. Sure it's cute and if I had two girls Pinkie Pie the elf would have been named. But I don't and I didn't want my son to go into his kindergarten class and tell everyone his elf's name was Pinkie Pie. So later on I tried one more time to name our elf. Luckily later on in the day Gianna had no clue what she had previously named our little elf. So once again we had the name conversation. And it was decided. Our Elf finally had a name. Bubble! And Gianna hasn't forgotten it this time

I kept our elf in his box on our mantle pointing him out to Gianna everyday or having her point him out to me. The week before Thanksgiving I had a whole Elf on the Shelf themed night planned.

After dinner I gave the kids baths and put them in one of many pairs of Christmas pajamas. I then read them the Elf on the Shelf book

Ethan could have cared less!

After reading the story we brought Bubble into the kitchen so the kids could officially be introduced

Hi Bubble

Once the introductions were finished we turned on the Elf on the Shelf movie

Gianna loved it
Again Ethan could have cared less

I still am not sure how I am going to work the Elf on the shelf this year. Since the kids are still young and don't fully understand the concept I may not go all out coming up with creative ideas for Bubble.

I know on Dec 1st I am going to make the kids a snowman breakfast to kick off our time with Bubble. I also picked up some christmas crafts that I think Bubble might do with the kids as the days go by. We shall see

I did see this calendar going around on facebook and Pinterest and thought I would share it with you all in case you needed some ideas for your Elf on the Shelf
Stay tuned for more Bubble adventures!

  1. We got our elf out this year, but the kids are too little to understand it, so I'm waiting until next year to go all out as well.
