On a side note

Has anyone ever read the following two books?

The first I picked up not only because in about a year I would like to start trying to have kiddo's but also because I would like to get off birth control. I've been on it for the last 8 years and all those hormones may not be the best thing for my body. I also dn't know much about my cycle, what days I am most fertile and what days I ovulate and have heard this book explains all of that information

The second book my cousin told me about. I always like to read books on relationships and thought I would give it a shot. I just ordered it from Barnes and Nobles and it arrived in the mail yesterday but since I am still at the conference it is awaiting me at home

If any of you have read either of these I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions about the books!!

Happy Friday everyone!!

  1. I love the 1st one. I read it a long time ago but we have been charting since 2002. It is a great read because I think it is so important for women to know their own bodies. I was amazed to learn how we all work :)

  2. I haven't read either book, but I was in the same situation as you before I got pregnant! I had no idea how fertile I was or when I was best fertile so after our first year of "trying" (I say it like that because we weren't actually trying to have a baby, but not NOT trying either) I started to get frustrated. Everyone is different. I've had friends get off of BC and within a month they were pregnant...and it took me over a year. So...good luck on your journey with that! And enjoy the books!

  5. Happy Reading!
I haven't read the first book, but I have read several of Dr. Laura's books. She has an XM station as well. I must be honest, I'm not a huge fan of her teachings, as they appear extremely rigid and may not suit the relationship you and hubby have already- one that you've developed without those teachings, and may be working just fine for you! She does have some excellent points, but in the greater scheme of things, we're exceptionally happy without following each and every word she offers.

So! While she does offer sound advice, take it with a pinch of salt and incorporate it into your relationship, rather than try to change it! Just my two cents worth!

I hope you enjoy nonetheless! :)

  6. I haven't read either books, but they are both on my list. Taking Charge of your Fertility--I have heard fanTAStic things about this book. My SIL & BIL actually used it as their sole form of BC for like 5 years. I know of others who have used it successfully too.
Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands--also haven't read, and I'm a mediocre fan of Dr. Laura. She has a successful marriage and children, so you can't begrudge her that. I think her delivery of her points are often masked by her harsh responses. But kinda like Simon Cowell, she's usually right. I would definitely read it and take an HONEST look at myself/relationship and incorporate as needed :)
Happy reading! Looking forward to hearing what you thought!

  7. TCOYF is a wonderful resource. I'm charting, and I feel so much more in tune with my body. I also recommend www.fertilityfriend.com for charting online. Good luck!

  14. I haven't read either, but I have the fertility one on my Amazon wish list. I tried 2 different birth controls in the past 2 years, and neither lasted more than 2 weeks before I stopped. I couldn't handle all the changes...the last straw was how cranky and sick I was over our honeymoon. The entire week. I couldn't stand it, so I stopped them all together. I'm interested to try this way as well! Let us know how you like it.
